Sunday, May 16, was an exciting day for the congregation of the Curwensville Alliance Church.  It was the beginning of the end of a dream formed several years ago.  In  1997 the board of directors decided it was time to begin planning for a much needed fellowship hall/ministry wing.  A building committee was formed, with Pastor Stephen Shields, Sam Weaver, Don Stewart and Dennis Neff Jr. as Chairman serving as the original members.

After seven years of intensive planning, a groundbreaking ceremony was held following the May 16 Sunday morning service.  Through the years, three properties adjacent to the church became available to the church through unexpected and miraculous ways.  This was a provision of God, the board believed, to proceed with the building project.

Mr. Weaver, who took the difficult job as chairman of the committee in 2002, said the building committee kept thinking, "It has been a long time-will this ever happen".  He added it was very encouraging as the properties next door became available.  He noted that these additional committee members were appointed in 2002: Shellie Gardlock, Jim Bell, Chuck and Judy Kim and Lloyd and Peggy Bloom.

Jim Bell, elder and building committee member, was the spokesperson for the groundbreaking event.  He thanked each person who has served on the building committee, especially Mr. Weaver for his dedicated leadership.  He said the elders believe the Ministry Wing will be used by God to help fulfill the mission of the church, which is, "To know God and to make Him known".

Mr. Bell also explained that the building will be shared by all ages in the church and introduced the coordinators for the various church ministries.  These members were chosen to cast the first shovels full of dirt to begin the building project:  Mr. Weaver; Perry Connor, head elder; Sue Connor, adult ministries coordinator; Randy Keith, Youth ministries coordinator; Laurel Shields, Children's ministries coordinator; and Pastor Shields.
